Hani Abdelmohsen Ahmed, 21, was arrested weeks after he allegedly stole more than 80 $2 bills from the bank that were later recovered following his arrest on Thursday afternoon.
According to a Fairfax County Police spokesperson, on Wednesday, Feb. 14, Ahmed stole the cash and left in a getaway vehicle that was later identified by detectives and surveilled for weeks until his arrest on Thursday, Feb. 29.
Police say that the stolen getaway vehicle led investigators to Ahmed's home, and at around 2:15 p.m. on Thursday, detectives spotted the Burke resident leaving his home and he was taken into custody.
It was also the same branch that was targeted earlier this week by a robber who remains at large.
During a search of Ahmed's home, detectives recovered a two-dollar bill bundle, as well as a weapon.
Ahmed was arrested and charged with armed robbery, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and felon in possession of a firearm.
He was also served on an outstanding warrant for a robbery that happened on Seminary Road in Bailey's Crossroads on the same day.
Ahmed is being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond.
